What is acupuncture and how does it work?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, flexible needles into specific points in the body’s tissues in order to activate the body’s own healing response. According to Chinese medicine theory, acupuncture releases blockages that were created by imbalances due to physical and mental stresses of life. Modern research shows that when a needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, the nervous system is stimulated to release neurotransmitters and neurohormones such as serotonin, dopamine, endorphins and many others which help with feelings of well-being, pain relief and many other physiological functions of the body. It is also suggested that acupuncture can correct reversible malfunctions of the body by direct activation of brain pathways and thus contribute to biochemical balance in the Central Nervous System. Acupuncture is indicated for many health concerns including, but not limited to pain conditions, allergy & sinus concerns, digestive dysfunctions, sleep concerns, stress, anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances and addictions.
