Your First Visit
Please arrive to our office about 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time in order to complete your initial paperwork, if you were unable to do so online. When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment, you will be asked to complete a comprehensive intake form. The acupuncture intake form asks questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family history. These questions are important because the holistic approach of Oriental medicine takes everything into account. Your current symptoms may not seem related to past health issues, but our bodies are complex landscapes and everything that happens to them leaves its mark.
After reviewing your intake form, we will discuss your condition, and I will examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. Based on the diagnostic information, a treatment plan will be created specifically for you which will include acupuncture and potentially other treatment modalities. The acupuncture points chosen will depend on your condition, and the number of acupuncture needles used also varies for each individual. Once the needles are inserted, I will leave you to lie comfortably for up to 30 minutes with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.
- Please plan on your initial visit taking up to an hour and a half, with follow up appointments being an hour in length.
- Please make sure you've had something light to eat prior to receiving acupuncture.
- Feel free to wear comfortable clothing to your appointment, however it's not necessary.
